Asbestos Products

Thousands of products commonly used in the United States during the last century contained asbestos. What would be unbelievable, were it not so well documented, is that for most of this time, the manufacturers incorporating asbestos into their products were well aware that the substance is dangerous. Even as the harmful aspects of asbestos exposure grew to be commonly known in the scientific community, asbestos companies still refused to remove asbestos from their products or to warn of the danger.

Grave Health Risk from Products Containing Asbestos

asbestos productsMany of these hazardous asbestos products are still in use. These products still carry a grave health risk, even when the asbestos is described as being “encapsulated” in the product.

As products age, they often dry out, become brittle and begin to disintegrate.

When those products are dislodged or removed, such as during a home remodel (there can be asbestos in drywall, asbestos in vinyl flooring, and asbestos in siding), for instance, dangerous asbestos fibers may be released into the environment.

Once asbestos fibers make their way into the air we breathe, they may be easily inhaled and trapped in the lungs or swallowed. This type of exposure carries a risk for developing mesothelioma and other asbestos related cancers. Because of the hazards associated with old asbestos products, they should be disturbed or removed only by licensed professional asbestos abatement specialists.
